re-set your nervous system with somatics

Somatic (body-based) work is deeply healing. It's so easy to get caught up in our heads which can often lead to an endless loop of overthinking, anxiety and paralysis of action.

Somatics help us reconnect with our feelings and tap into the intelligence of our body, so we have access to much more information about what is really going on than just what our mind is telling us.

how i work with somatics

I use somatic techniques to support people who recognise there is something deeper going on than what their mind has access to. People who are aware that past patterns and old ways of being are still influencing how they show up in the world today, even when those old ways of being are no longer serving them.

Part of this is about re-setting the nervous system. If we are constantly stuck in fight or flight because of difficult past events which remain 'stuck' in the body, we need to find a way to release those old nervous system patterns to create room for new ways of being.

Once the old pattern has been identified and released, this create capacity for personal relationships to be renegotiated and strengthened, to untangle the reactivity that is held in the body and to give greater awareness and choice about they want to respond to events today.

the power of somatic experiencing

Somatic Experiencing was developed by Dr Peter Levine as a body-centred approach to healing trauma. It is based on the idea that trauma is held in the body, and it is the body that holds the answer to healing and releasing that trauma.

SE helps to re-set the nervous system by unfreezing the arousal that gets stuck during a traumatic event (enabling the experience of a different survival response that was not possible at the time, such as fighting back or running away).

The arousal may be in the form of thoughts, sensations or emotions, and, through becoming more aware of sensations in the body, SE supports the person to process and release what is happening, relieving the symptoms and encouraging the nervous system to relax so the person can move forward without their nervous system being on constant high alert.

discounted sessions with somatic experiencing

I am currently in training to become a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. I have completed the first year of training (Beginning Level) and will soon move on to the intermediate level.

Whilst I am in training, I am offering heavily reduced somatic coaching sessions, using powerful somatic experiencing techniques.
